Yumiko East was born in Japan. She moved to California in 1991 and studied anthroposophy through the Goethean Study Program, Biodynamic Apprenticeship Training with Harald Hoven, and watercolor painting at Rudolf Steiner College. While continuing her study in visual art in California and Switzerland, she has been drawing and painting with adults and children and for the 2018 Stella Natura Calendar, Japanese biodynamic planting calendars, children's picture books and private collections.
