This CBD hemp field day, organized by West Star Organics, Circadian Organics, UW-Madison Horticulture and Michael Fields Agricultural Institute, will focus on the harvesting, processing, and markets of CBD hemp.

Included in the afternoon will be a panel discussion led by experienced producers, tour of an ongoing fertility trial, harvest demonstration, as well as a panel discussing markets with retailers, extractors and those involved in the process.

This event will focus on growth comparisons of 10 -15 different high CBD oil Hemp cultivar lines with comparative CBD/THC tested levels, grain hemp production and a visit to an 8+ acre direct seeded high CBD oil hemp field.The tour starts at Michael Fields Agricultural Institute looking at the high CBD oil organic hemp plot, then we will visit Turtle Creek Gardens in Delavan and their high CBD oil hemp and grain hemp plots, and then onto Shawn Klugs Operation.

Labor Day to Thanksgiving is the time to make sure your hives have everything they need to survive the winter months and meet the spring ready to build up and thrive.

In this half-day workshop, Pfeiffer Center beekeeper Bill Day will share his checklist for winter readiness, the reasoning behind it, and how to apply it. Weather permitting, most of our time will be spent at the hives in the Pfeiffer Center garden.

You will leave this workshop with clear guidelines for evaluating your hives, and steps to take to prepare them for the coming winter.

Join herbalist and biodynamic herb gardener Deb Soule for an informative walk through Avena Botanicals' medicinal herb gardens. Deb and a crew of gardeners collect over 1,800 pounds of medicinal herbs by hand each year from 2-1/2 acres. These herbs are processed immediately on-site into tinctures, teas, oils and salves. Avena is the first Demeter-certified biodynamic farm in Maine, and Deb will introduce biodynamics as part of this tour. Potluck to follow.

This course is designed for experienced growers and farmers but we will welcome everyone interested in seed. We'll focus on seed production techniques for many crops, learn how to initiate and carry out seed contracts, and figure out how to weave Seed onto a working farm, how to choose what to grow to seed in relation to your climate etc. Come prepared with questions and expect many hands-on activities. You'll have the chance to see various small and mid-scale tools.
