Event Description

Moderated by Martin Ping and featuring Janey Newton, Miriam MacGillis, Tom Spaulding, Farmer John Peterson, and Verna Kragnes

Not only is there an upsurge in the number of people who want to go into farming, there is also an upsurge in the number of people who want to establish some kind of farm-based center for education, healing, or social change. These new farm-based centers have the potential to become seeds of a new sustainable culture, just as “the town” became a focal point for a new culture following the dark ages in Europe. This workshop will showcase some of the oldest and most successful farm-based centers in the country together with some newer communities. From Hawthorne Valley Farm to Philadelphia Community Farm, from Genesis Farm to Foxhollow Farm to Angelic Organics, come learn from the experience of these extraordinary pioneers and share your own story as well.
