Featuring Conrad Vispo, Claudia Knab-Vispo, and Claudio Gratton
On-farm natural areas are an important part of the whole-farm organism. In this session a dynamic team of a wildlife ecologist, an ethnobotanist and an agroecologist working in the Northeast and the Midwest will explore 'marginal' areas on farms from two perspectives: 1) What can farms provide to nature conservation? and 2) What can semi-natural habitat provide to farms? Using a hypothetical farm, we will discuss layout and management decisions that can achieve positive integration of active farming and creation or maintenance of natural habitats. Participants are encouraged to bring aerials of their own farms as well as questions for discussion.
