Hawthorne Valley Farm is looking for a Director of Farm Production Enterprises

The mission of Hawthorne Valley Farm production enterprises (bakery, creamery, and kraut cellar) is to produce the highest quality biodynamic and organic products at reasonable prices and in a profitable manner. All three enterprises will always attempt to preserve the living quality of the food they are working with; in so doing they will support the ongoing mission of Hawthorne Valley Farm and Association. The Hawthorne Valley Farm Bakery, Creamery and Kraut Cellar are committed to being an educational resource to the community on ecological, environmental and food related issues.

The Director of Farm Production Enterprises (DoFPE) manages the Hawthorne Valley Farm Brand and thus is responsible for the overall success of the three production enterprises. This includes budgeting, marketing and sales, compliance with federal-, state-, and certification-agency requirements, product development, packaging, costing to meet margin goals, scheduling production with the three supervisors to meet customer demand, and ensuring safety and sanitation. This position is full-time with benefits and requires a minimum time commitment of 45 hrs/ week.

Responsibilities include: Production Planning, Product Development, Operations, Supervision of Production Enterprise Supervisors, and General Management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge and Experience: post graduate degree(MBA) and/or business experience, food production and food processing experience, experience with biodynamic agriculture, experience with biodynamic and/or organic certification, and experience developing operating and capital budgets.

Skills and Abilities: demonstrated ability to develop systems, supervisory experience, organizational and record keeping capabilities, computer literacy, strong communication and social skills, ability to work collaboratively as a team member, ability to envision and strategically plan for the future, ability to read financial statements, with strong grasp of margin pricing, willingness and ability to learn and grow to meet the changing requirements of the job, passion for local, organic, and biodynamic food and the emerging real food economy, and personal commitment to the mission of Hawthorne Valley Farm.
