Friday, September 18, 2020 from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm EST

Summer brings many challenges to the bees, and winter is fast approaching. Labor Day to Thanksgiving is the beekeeper’s opportunity to ensure that your bees have all they need to overwinter successfully and build up strong next spring.

This half-day workshop will focus on timely tasks every beekeeper should have in mind to ensure healthy hives and successful overwintering. Topics covered will include assessing hive health; assessing honey stores; when to super, and when to take off boxes; harvesting honey; when and how to feed; monitoring and managing varroa; management options for weak hives; and more.

Weather permitting, most of the morning will be spent with our hives in the Pfeiffer Center garden.

Bonus afternoon session: After lunch, Bill will lead a walk to one of the bee yards on our farm for an open conversation and demonstration.

Please note: To ensure everyone’s safety, registration for this workshop is limited, and every participant must be pre-registered No walk-ins will be accepted on the day of the workshop.
