Future Harvest and the UMES Small Farms Program invite you to experience a medicinal and culinary herb plot in action - in person! - while you learn from herbalist Henriette Den Ouden about which plants are grown for their leaves, roots, flowers, or seeds, and more!

Thursday, May 27, 2021 from 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm EST

Longtime herbalist Henriette den Ouden joined the UMES Small Farm Program staff in 2019 and began an on-farm herb demonstration plot. Now in year 3, Henriette will take workshop participants through established beds reviewing culinary and medicinal herbs as we go, discussing varieties that grow well in our region, how to grow them so they are marketable and how to plant, tend, and harvest these plants.

The day will include hands-on activities such as harvesting and laying mulch and will finish up with an hour-long exploration into the medicinal properties of a select few herbs and how growing methods impact them.

This is an in person event. Safety precautions: Attendees, please wear a mask and bring gardening gloves of your own and your own water and snacks. We’ll have hand sanitizer, a restroom, and wash-station on site. Pre-registration is required; no walk-ins accepted. $20 non-member, $10 member. Free for 2021 BFTP Trainees. Only 15 spots available. REGISTER HERE
