GeerCrest Farm & Historical Society (GCF&HS) is recruiting a full time Farm and Education Program Leader with optional room and board on the farm. This is a highly collaborative position maintaining and evolving our homestead classroom and programs as a place for visitors to learn, experience, and reflect on food, craft, and our place on the planet. Full job description is linked below and can also be found on our website www.geercrest.org/jobs
Some brief background: GCF&HS is a unique educational nonprofit, integrating farm, food, craft and land stewardship-based programs into a living history museum site. Our programs include:
1) School group field-trip and overnight farm-life experience programs
2) Summer Farm-life Experience Weeks (summer camp on the farm)
3) Community events with fresh food, lectures, music, or other programs
4) Individual or group/family retreats
5) Site rentals
6) Adult workshops
In addition, GCF&HS stewards the Geer farmhouse, circa 1851, stone fruit cellar, 1880, and the grounds. Food grown in the gardens, orchard and berry patches is served fresh to visitors, nourishes staff, and is preserved for future use. Holistic organic practices are used in our diverse, homestead-minded system.
We have a partnership with a local public charter Montessori middle school program, whose 7th and 8th grade students currently spend a week every month on the farm. Within the coming few years, we hope that their students will be on the farm full time.
The mission of GCF&HS is to: “nurture personal growth and learning through immersive educational programs in farm-life, nature, and the history of GeerCrest Farm.”
We are seeking to add a key lead staff member to enrich our collaborative environment and further our educational programs. Please see the position description which provides more details on the opportunity available.
Ideal start date March 15th 2019.
