Farming Lead - Full Time - Soter Vineyards, OR

Soter Vineyards is a world-class producer and grower of exceptional Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sparkling Wine in Oregon’s Willamette Valley. We call home Mineral Springs Ranch, a 240-acre oak savanna in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA. This is where our Biodynamic estate vineyard and winery, tasting room, and heirloom vegetable farm exist in ecological harmony. Our winemaking philosophy is driven by responsible farming practices, cultivation of heirloom varietals, and a conveyance of “place” in everything we make.

The farm lead position will head up all vegetable and flower farming practices. Soter Vineyards is renowned for its culinary program and top-notch hospitality, all fueled by a desire to grow much of its produce on the home property near Carlton, OR. The farming lead will be tasked with working alongside the ranch team and culinary team to make and execute plans to create the highest level experience for our guests. These duties range from crop planning with culinary program and implementing organic farming practices, to working with ranch crew and management to insure timely field work and harvest and just about everything in between. Familiarity with various cropping systems and vegetable culture is important, as is the desire to work with a small team and enjoy working outdoors.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Participate in crop plan for a high end, 1-2 acre kitchen garden
  • Keep accurate records on farming practices including seeding and harvest dates
  • Log and maintain data needed for Organic and Biodynamic certifications
  • Till, fertilize, and cultivate field
  • Seed and transplant flowers and vegetables
  • Set up and maintain drip irrigation system
  • Work with manager and crew to plan out field duties
  • Harvest produce
  • Come to work wanting to do your best

Job Requirements

  • 1+ year of farming experience, preferably in a mixed culture of vegetables. Flowers a plus.
  • Experience with Organic and Biodynamic farming
  • Must embrace a work culture of positivity, diversity, and inclusivity 
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and manage time effectively
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, along with a sense of humor
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, Spanish is a bonus
  • Must be comfortable in an environment with farm animals
  • Must be able to work outside during the warm and cold months
  • Must be able to engage in physical labor for long periods of time
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time
  • A desire to grow your knowledge.
