Illinois Intern Opportunity Available
The CSA Learning Center at Angelic Organics is seeking a Learning Facilitator/Farmer Intern. This position manages programs offered by the Community Supported Agriculture Learning Center, a non-profit partner to the Angelic Organics CSA farm located in Caledonia, Illinois. The Learning Facilitator/Farmer Intern will devote three-quarters of their time to the CSA Learning Center's agro-ecology education, food security, and farmer training programs and one-quarter of their time to organic vegetable and livestock production. We primarily are a resource for urban youth and adults for the greater Chicago and Rockford areas. The position is supervised by the Executive Director.
The primary responsibilities of the Learning Facilitator/Farmer Intern are to:
* Coordinate and facilitate educational & community learning programs at farm (50%)
* Provide follow-up and technical support to community groups after farm visits (20%)
* Assist with livestock and grow, cultivate, and harvest vegetables, herbs, and fruit (25%)
* Assist the Director with other duties as assigned (5)%
The internship runs from April to October. Interns work from Monday to Friday (sun-up to 5:00 pm) and Saturdays until noon. Interns are provided with room and board plus a monthly stipend.
This position is responsible for interpreting the farm to visitors and facilitating a wide range of community outreach efforts. Group work, community organizing, and popular education skills are important. Spanish is a plus. Knowledge of organic farming is required (i.e. appicants must have completed a first-year internship on a farm and/or comparable experiences).
