Michael Fields Agricultural Institute Seeks Applicants for Garden Student Program
The Michael Fields Agricultural Institute Garden Student Program is now accepting applications for foundation year students, and second/third year advanced internships.
We encourage individuals looking for a hands-on agricultural education in organic/biodynamic fundamentals and an experience with a community purpose to apply. The foundation year is a seven-month program from April 1 to October 31. Two to four month placements are also available.
The foundation year curriculum emphasizes sustainable farming practices including soil fertility, biodynamic and organic practicum, food production techniques, plant classification and culture, transplant and greenhouse production, tool and equipment use, tractor safety, and organic vegetable marketing and subscription sales. The physical capability to work daily in a rigorous garden setting is desired.
The second/third year offers a flexible self-designed program to meet the needs of the applicants and provides continuing education in practical and technical training in farm management and entrepreneurial enterprise.
Applications will be accepted through March 15. Early applications are encouraged since the program has a limited number of placements available.
