Biodynamic Agriculture Second Course Leader - Emerson College, England

The Biodynamic Agriculture course at Emerson College in Forest Row, England is seeking to appoint a second course leader from July 2009.

The Biodynamic Agriculture course is a two year course leading to a National Certificate in Agriculture which is accredited by Edexcel and Plumpton Agricultural College in Sussex, England. Graduates from the training are working in responsible positions on biodynamic and organic farms in the UK and abroad and some are running their own enterprises.

In the first year, the course is residential at Emerson College for two terms – September to March. The students then go on placement on biodynamic farms in the UK, the European continent and beyond. In the second year they return to Emerson College for two terms and go on their second placement. They graduate in August following their second placement.

Emerson College offers a unique learning environment where students with different professional interests (Foundation Year, Education, Visual Arts, Story-telling) study together on their chosen direction. Both the staff and student bodies are very international and of a wide age-range.

The Rachel Carson Centre, which houses the biodynamic course on the Emerson College campus, is an exciting project which integrates a garden for food production, education and research with an experimental and teaching kitchen and Nutrition Centre where research will be conducted. There is great scope for growth and innovative work at this early stage of the Centre’s development.

We are looking for an experienced biodynamic farmer who is well-grounded in anthroposophy and the science of biodynamics. S/he will have strong adult-educational skills and be fluent in both spoken and written English. (The course has to be taught and assignments marked in English).
