The Farm and Arts Coordinator is the administrator of the Farm and Arts Program of the Hawthorne Valley Farm Learning Center. He/she acts as a liasion to the Hawthorne Valley Waldorf School and the Visiting Students Program and as an ambassador to the broader Hawthorne Valley community and to the public in creating farm-based educational programming for Hawthorne Valley Farm. The Farm and Arts Coordinator is asked to bring together the storytelling and developmentally based approach of the Waldorf teacher with the knowledge and experience of the biodynamic farmer in the creation of all programs, workshops and events for all ages.
The Farm and Arts Coordinator is responsible to the Director of Educational Programs of the Hawthorne Valley Farm Learning Center and works directly with him/her in the development of all programs, workshops and events for the the Farm and Arts Program. The FAC also works collaboratively with the Farm and Arts Program Committee including members of Hawthorne Valley Farm staff, and representatives of Hawthorne Valley School and the Visiting Students Program.
Farm Education and Outreach Tasks:
â€¢ Develop and implement farm based educational programs, workshops and events for all ages for the Farm and Arts Program according to the principles and vision of the Hawthorne Valley Farm Learning Center.
â€¢ Develop and implement appropriate curriculum for all programs,workshops and events based on the pricinples of biodynamics and Waldorf education under the supervision of the Director of Educational Programs and in collaboration with the Farm and Arts Program Committee.
â€¢ Demonstrate knowledge of biodynamic agriculture and basic animal husbandry, horticultural and craft skills and participate in implementation of programs that are developed.
â€¢ Oversee the safety operation of all farm related educational activities for the Farm and Arts Program.
â€¢ Develop relationships with Hawthorne Valley School faculty to further farm based educational activities for Hawthorne Valley School in collaboration with the DEP.
â€¢ Develop partnerships with local social service agencies and public schools in collaboration with the DEP to further farm based activities for their organizations.
â€¢ Devleop and maintain educational gardens.
â€¢ Develop and maintain all Learning Center animal husbandry areas and care for all small animals that are involved in programming in collaboration with appropriate farm and or VSP staff.
â€¢ Maintain all tools necessary for programs.
â€¢ Hire and spervise additional program staff as needed in collaboration with the DEP.
â€¢ Coordinate and maintain balance among program areas.
â€¢ Maintain accurate financial records.
â€¢ Develop program budgets and maintain them throughout the year in collaboration with the DEP.
â€¢ Develop and implement appropriate evaluation tools for all programs with the assistance of the DEP.
â€¢ Track budget versus actual expenses for all programs, workshops and events
â€¢ Help in the creation and development of all public relations and marketing materials for the Farm and Arts Program.
â€¢ Help in grant writing for the Farm and Arts Program
â€¢ Basic animal husbandry and gardening skills
â€¢ Strong cooking skills and skills or interest in farm based crafts
â€¢ Working knowledge of Waldorf education and Biodynamic agriculture
