Chris Velez has worked in agriculture for the last 12 years, starting with running a small California native plant nursery, and developing Stella Luna Farm and CSA over the last 10 years. Stella Luna Farm is located on an ancient alluvial flood plain known as Auberry Sandy Loam. Chris thinks of the farm as one organism, which is a lot like their community. The farm has a compost yard and tries to host a few animals to help with the farm fertility program. They make and use many different herb based teas to help promote even growth and balanced fertility, as well as plant regionally appropriate crops and selected varieties to ensure the healthiest plants and complex flavors. By looking at the farm as one organism, they try not only to replenish the soil, but also to help make the soil capable of replenishing itself.
