Water Resilience on the Farm

With a changing climate, historical weather patterns can no longer be relied upon, and developing water resilience is a must for every farm. Hugh Williams of Threshold Farm will describe how to create a whole-farm Keyline plan, including off-contour farming, drought-proofing your farm, engineering of Keyline dams and reservoirs, Keyline scale of permanence, and how Threshold Farm is implementing these to manage the flow of water across their land.

The Hidden Logic of the Compost Preparations

The details of how the biodynamic compost preparations are made can scare off newcomers to biodynamics - uncommon ingredients and techniques can sound like voodoo or just crazy. And yet, there is a deep logic in why the chamomile is put into the intestines of a cow, yarrow in a deer bladder, oak bark in a skull. Discovering this logic is not only awe-inspiring, but can give farmers and gardeners practicing biodynamics tools for explaining these preparations to their customers and their communities.

The Alchemy of Bee-ing

When we step into the world of honeybees, we are entering a multidimensional landscape of being. Bees are agents of transformation and a phenomenon that Rudolf Steiner perceived as an “enigmatic-world-being.” Our journey into the world of bees will naturally lead to an inquiry into our own consciousness. It is a gate into the wisdom of the bees and the landscape of the human soul. This workshop will explore the alchemical qualities of our relationship with honeybees.

Re-membering the Future

Often it is crisis that throws us into turmoil and ultimately sends us in a new direction. At a certain point most of us want to feel less thrown about and more firmly in the driver’s seat. In the sea of choices that lay before most of us, at any given moment, really, can we feel clearer about the course of life that is right for us? Is it possible to develop a more objective view of the road? To know which way to turn? You bet! It can help to think of life itself as a map. Through the practice of biography work, it is possible to know where we’re going, individually and as a whole.

Q&A: Biodynamic Composting and Preparation Making

This interactive session will be an opportunity for those individuals seeking to develop new imaginative ways for practicing biodynamics to ask questions to a panel of experienced biodynamic practitioners. These panelists, each in their own way, have brought new thinking to biodynamics and are working to address the core challenge of transforming our myopic perceptions in agriculture.

This workshop will give an overview of the principles and challenges of farmland protection, stewardship, and succession will and share success stories from the work of land trusts and other innovative organizations working to address these challenges.
