Soil & Soul: A 7-Day Biodynamic Retreat at Rancho Margot, Costa Rica. March 8th - 14th, 2027
The mission of biodynamics has always been one of fostering health for the purpose of universal human freedom.
The goal of the “farm organism” is so that every farm might source from within its own boundaries, all its own fertility needs that stream in from the cosmos.
Hugh Williams and Hanna Bail, owners and operators of Threshold Farm, will share their perspective on unfolding the living being of their particular farm individuality. Also covered: the science and art of pruning fruit trees, including a few hours of hands-on learning, pruning our own orchard under Hugh and Hanna’s expert guidance.
This one-day workshop covers the basics of what needs to be done in autumn to over-winter your hives and keep them healthy and strong. The winter and early spring months are often the most difficult time of the year for the bees and understanding their needs at this time of year is crucial. We will take a closer look at various illnesses and probable causes, and demonstrate our methods of hive feeding, wrapping, and consolidation for best possible over-wintering success.
Please bring a lunch. Light snacks are provided.
8:30 am – 5:00 pm

Collecting and burning pests and spreading their ashes is a common, effective practice in biodynamic agriculture to help balance pest infestations. We will be making remedies from the varroa mite, small hive beetle, ticks, and the spotted lantern fly.
