I've been kind of using these ("wastewood" mounds) for various things as mentioned here -- as borders, driveway edges, swales, raised beds, ... just add grass, leaves, compost, etc. and voilà... Haven't tried tying them together or staking them, though... the accumulated compost seems to hold them/it in place for me (for what I've used them for, so far)...
