Aspen Moon Farm

North American Biodynamic Apprenticeship Program > Participating Mentor Farms

Aspen Moon Farm Aspen Moon Farm is a small intensive family market farm, certified biodynamic and organic. The farm has good local connections and is currently working with NRCS, FSA and CSU extension office. The Farm is very diverse in both the layout and the planting plan. We grow all of our own starter plants in an on-site heated greenhouse. We also have (2) 3000 s.f. hoophouses for early and late season crops -- we are well known for season extension. This Farm is started from the ground up, all of our fields were traditional Hay fields before we began cropping. The Farm is located in the heart of the St. Vrain Valley and boasts amazing views of the Colorado mountains including 14,000’ Longs Peak. The area is known for its diverse wildlife and Riparian habitats, including Bald Eagles. The Farm is located in the small town of Hygiene with Longmont just a 5 minute bike ride away and Boulder about a 20 minute drive. Although we are in the country and surrounded by Farmland, our proximity to town gives us a bit of an urban feel and sense of community. We currently attend 2 great Farmers Markets -- Boulder and Longmont, have a CSA and a road side Farm stand.

Size of farm: We own 2.5 acres and lease 5 acres adjacent to our property = 7 acres 3.5 acres cultivated. In 2012 we signed a 10 year lease on 19 additional acres (across the road) giving us a total of 26 acres. We are certified biodynamic and organic.

Diversity of produce and livestock: We grow over 200 varieties of salad greens, vegetables, berries, fruit and flowers. We are about 75% mixed vegetables 15% fruits and berries and 10% cut-flowers. We are home to about 25-40 laying hens, a few bee hives and a small herd of cows, primarily for the manure although we hope to establish some raw milk in the future.
