Farm Manager in Training
Flowers by the Sea is a 45 acre Demeter certified Biodynamic farm on the coast of Northern California, surrounded by wild lands and overlooking the Pacific. We have a very diverse crop set, including stone and pome fruits, berries, vegetables, flowers, herbs and a mail order nursery. Goats, poultry, bees and occasionally pigs add to the mix. For 14 years we have been producing high quality food for our local community.
The time has come to start the training of one who can continue the management of the farm as I age. This person would become increasingly responsible over time for the management of the field crops, orchards, berries, livestock and miscellaneous crops. The right person could and would take some of the day-to-day responsibility and future planning duties immediately. Hands on organic farming experience and skills on a commercial scale, good physical conditioning, the willingness and ability to learn, a dedication to clean food for local markets and the desire / ability to commit to a long term project are all important requirements.
This is a role that one can grow into, but also one which requires capable performance immediately. Small scale agriculture is challenging in many ways, and the person we are looking for must relish these challenges. Reality check: This is not an apprenticeship position, but an opportunity for an experienced farmer.
This is a full time position, salary plus incentives, with housing on the farm.
