Attention: Sustainable Farmers and Farm Education Programs, Florence MA

Up to 63 acres of prime farmland may soon be available for lease in Northampton, MA. Interested farmers please apply.

Our non-profit organization, Grow Food Northampton is racing to the finish line of a fundraising campaign to purchase land in Florence, MA to create the Northampton Community Farm. Provided we meet our fundraising goal to buy the land by Jan. 31, 2011, Grow Food Northampton will lease the land in spring 2011 to farmers and/or farm programs that share our vision of sustainable farming. Through our first call for applications, we selected a vegetable CSA operation, Crimson & Clover , that will occupy 37 adjacent acres of land. We are now seeking proposals from farm operations that shall complement rather than directly compete with Crimson and Clover, such as operations that raise different crops or livestock. Leases will be long-term, and will enable farmers to own farm infrastructure they build. Farmers will own and independently operate their businesses.

Our vision for the land includes:

· Sustainable, diversified agriculture using organic practices

· Food growing for local markets

· Educational opportunities such as farmer mentoring, farm camps, community workshops, or school programs

· Community engagement such as harvest celebrations, volunteer work-days, contributions to our local food pantries, etc.

We are seeking the right farmers to join our project. Farmers will demonstrate extensive experience in sustainable farming or farm education, alignment with Grow Food Northampton's goals, and a viable business plan. Proposals will be accepted December 3-December 26, 2010. To request an application, please contact Lilly Lombard, 413-584-0081, info@growfoodnorthampton.
