Seasonal GROUNDSKEEPER - Churchtown Dairy, NY

SEASONAL GROUNDSKEEPER

The Groundskeeper will report directly to the Facility Director and support the efforts to keep the grounds in good condition throughout the Spring, Summer and Fall.  They will preserve and enrich the dairy’s unique aesthetic by managing the grounds maintenance.  They will assist and execute a variety of tasks under the guidance of managers, including using a wide variety of tools, machines and landscaping equipment.  They will maintain and ensure safety and cleanliness throughout the farm’s property through landscaping, road maintenance and cleaning of common areas.

This is an opportunity for a flexible, curious, friendly, and hard working person with minimal professional experience to begin a potentially long career at Churchtown Dairy.  

RESPONSIBILITIES:

General Responsibilities:  

  • Mowing, weeding and grounds maintenance

  • Assist Medicinal Gardener with projects as needed

  • Assist Facilities Manager with projects as needed 

  • Perform daily, weekly and monthly tasks as defined by your manager 

Groundskeeping/Medicinal Gardens:

  • Work seasonally to mow grass, prune, weed and assist in the gardens as necessary

  • Maintain lawns, outdoor seating areas, general area plant maintenance 

  • Work seasonally with the medicinal gardener to execute tasks as needed

  • Assist with stacking hay during hay season

  • Repair potholes as necessary 

  • To remain “on call” for weather,  events and arrive to work outside of your typical work schedule

Facilities:

  • Ability to operate JCB and skid steer as necessary for tasks and receive large farm deliveries

  • Ability to use a wide variety of power tools, hand tools, read a tape measure and display a willingness to increase those skills

  • Assist Facility and Event managers in the planning, setup and break down of farm events which may be outside of regularly scheduled working hours

Requirements:

  • Reliable

  • Punctual

  • Ability to follow directions and good time management skills

  • Must have possesses a high attention to detail

  • Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully, both verbally and in writing

  • Ability to bring an open-minded and objective attitude to evaluating issues

  • Commitment to working outside of regular work hours when needed for special events or in any critical situation

  • Ability to safely operate farm equipment

  • Ability to lift 60 lbs

  • Ability to work outdoors for prolonged periods in varying weather: heat, cold, rain and snow

  • Must have valid NY State driver’s license (driving farm equipment is required)

Compensation:

This is a full time position working 40-50 hours a week, Monday-Friday with the ability to swap/add Saturday or Sunday as needed.  Compensation for the position is based on experience, $19-22 per hour + PTO and a 25% discount on all goods in the Farm Store.
