Farm Education & Production Manager
Full-Time • Starting March 2026
Boulder, Colorado

Light Root Farm & Learning Center is a place where land stewardship, education, and
healing come together. Rooted in holistic farming practices, our 65-acre farm in Boulder,
Colorado serves as both a working agricultural system and a living classroom. Through
utilizing working horses and oxen, integrated livestock systems, and low-till gardens and
diverse crop fields, we cultivate soil health, resilience, and meaningful relationships
between people, animals, and the land. Our educational and therapeutic programs are
grounded in the belief that the farm and nature can be a powerful tool for learning,
connection, and healing.

The Farm Education & Production Manager plays a key role in bringing this mission to
life—bridging hands-on farm work with education, mentorship, and community
engagement while growing alongside our expanding programs.

Position: Farm Education & Production Manager

The Farm Education & Production Manager oversees day-to-day garden and crop field
operations, leads education programs and volunteers, helps facilitate therapeutic and
farmer-training programs, and supports general farm and livestock systems.
We are seeking a candidate excited to grow with this position as our organization expands. This
role blends hands-on farm work with program facilitation, leadership, and collaboration with the
Farm Directors.

Reports to: Farm Directors (Cameron Genter & Daphne Kingsley)

Responsibilities
1. Garden & Field Crop Production (Approx. 40%)
● Work with Farm Directors to design garden and crop plan for seasons programming
● Lead up planting, cultivation, and harvest of field crops
● Manage Greenhouse propagation and seed starts
● Manage all production of education gardens—medicinal herbs, vegetables, flowers, and
perennials

● Manage and implement Garden and Crop field irrigation systems
● Collaborate with Farm Directors to design and implement garden and cropping systems
that incorporate working animals (oxen and horses) into the tillage, cultivation and
harvesting of crops.

2. Education, Farmer Training, Mental Health Programs & Volunteer
Facilitation (Approx. 35%)
● Co-facilitate Farm summer camps and lead up garden education curriculum
● Lead and support farm tours, workshops, therapeutic farm sessions, and teen programs
● Collaborate with educators and mental health practitioners to integrate meaningful farm
tasks into therapeutic and educational experiences
● Uphold a safe, inclusive, supportive environment for healing, learning, and skill-building
● Develop seasonal projects aligned with educational and therapeutic goals
● Lead and facilitate volunteer days, including task planning, instruction, supervision, and
creating a positive, mission-aligned experience

3. General Farm Operations (Approx. 25%)
● Supervise and mentor seasonal staff, interns, and volunteers
● Assist with seasonal pasture irrigation (May–July)
● Manage pastured poultry operations, including daily maintenance and grazing systems
● Assist with pastured pigs daily management and pasture rotations
● Assist dairy operations, including milking, chores, and grazing support
● Support general livestock operations and chores as needed

Qualifications
Required
● 2+ years hands-on farming and gardening experience at a management level
● Experience leading or facilitating farm education for youth or adults
● Experience growing vegetables, flowers, and medicinal herbs
● Experience setting up, operating and maintaining irrigation systems
● Experience with livestock care
● Strong communication and interpersonal skills
● Ability to lead diverse groups on the farm, including volunteers
● Ability to work outside in all types of weather and lift 50+ lbs regularly

● Reliability, organization, adaptability
● Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with a team
● Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

Preferred
● Experience in outdoor education, youth development, therapeutic programs, or
farm-based mental health services
● Experience mentoring interns or apprentices
● Background in dairy, grazing systems, regenerative, or Biodynamic agriculture
● Leadership or supervisory experience
● Experience coordinating or leading volunteers
Most Important
● A desire to grow with this position and contribute to the farm’s expanding educational,
therapeutic, and farmer-training mission

Schedule & Compensation
Position Type: Full-time, year-round
Start Date: March 2026
Schedule:
This is an hourly position with a variable schedule that adjusts based on seasonal demands
and programmatic needs.
● Typically 5–6 days per week, including some weekends
● Average 35–45 hours per week, with peak season from May–October
● Work hours may increase during planting, harvest, and special programs, and decrease
during the off-season
● Daily start and end times may vary
Compensation:
● $25–$28 per hour, depending on experience (DOE)
